Often, patients will come into our office requesting fillers, but they won’t have a strong idea of what types of facial fillers would actually benefit them.
Of course, we are happy to take a look at your skin and give you our best recommendations based on your major concerns. But we also thought we’d take the time to outline what specific injectable fillers we offer and what each one can do for signs of aging, lack of facial volume, imbalanced features, and more.
In this article, we’ll be discussing everything you need to know about facial fillers, including how they work, how they differ from neuromodulators, what each one does, and the types of dermal fillers we have available at our practice.
What Do Dermal Fillers Do?
Dermal fillers are injectables that can smooth lines, fill in wrinkles, address volume loss, and even stimulate natural collagen production.
The bottom line is this: Different types of facial fillers do different things, but all facial fillers aim to create a more harmonious, youthful, and attractive look. We have outlined what each filler we offer does up ahead.
What’s the Difference Between Dermal Fillers and Neuromodulators?
Dermal fillers, as their name implies, literally fill in wrinkles and folds from beneath. They can also address volume loss in this way. Neuromodulators such as Botox & Dysport, on the other hand, actually weaken muscle contractions in the face, and thus can often treat deeper wrinkles known as “dynamic wrinkles” (frown lines or crow’s feet, for example).
What Are the Main Types of Facial Fillers?
Facial balancing with fillers is all about finding the fillers that are right for you and your unique concerns. We offer the following dermal fillers at our Houston practice:
Sculptra® Aesthetic
Sculptra® Aesthetic is typically used on marionette lines and wrinkles along the chin. This filler can help stimulate and replace natural collagen production in the face.
If you wold like to add volume to your buttocks and hip area but do not have enough excess body fat for a Brazilian butt lift (BBL), Sculptra® Aesthetic can also be used on the buttocks as well as to smooth decollate wrinkles as well.
Restylane® Lyft
Restylane® Lyft is an HA (hyaluronic acid) filler that is used to smooth and restore lost volume to the hands and face.
Restylane® Kysse
Restylane® Kysse is a filler that is primarily intended for the lips. This injectable filler treatment can add flexible movement and volume to the lips — even improving texture and color.
Restylane® Defyne
Restylane® Defyne is a hyaluronic acid filler that is typically used to improve laugh lines around the mouth. It can smooth both nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and it can even be used to help define a patient’s jawline — all while allowing for flexible movement.
Restylane® Refyne
Similar to Restylane® Defyne, Restylane® Refyne is generally used for correcting laugh lines, though it is better for less severe cases. Refyne offers the same flexible movement and may also be used for the tear trough area and on the lips and nose.
Restylane® L
Restylane® L can be used on the tear trough area to get rid of bags beneath the eyes. It can also be used to naturally plump up the lips.
JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC
JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC is a gel facial filler that can correct wrinkles around the mouth and nose. It is sometimes used to enhance the shape of the lips or add volume to the lips as well.
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is also a gel facial filler, but this one is typically used to add volume and give a more youthful look and subtle lift to the cheeks.
FAQ: Dermal Filler Injections
Which facial fillers last the longest?
Overall, JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® fillers are known to last the longest. Sculptra® injectables are also known to be quite long-lasting and durable.
What are the best types of facial fillers for the lower half of the face?
If you have aesethic concerns on the lower half of your face (laugh lines, deep nasolabial folds, thin lips, etc.), poly l lactic acid (PLLA) fillers are likely your best option. This synthetic dermal ingredient can be found in Sculptra® injectables.
What is the most natural looking filler?
Hyaluronic acid fillers (HA fillers) tend to be recommended as producing the most natural results. Hyaluronic acid can smooth deep wrinkles on the forehead and other facial wrinkles, reduce the appearance of vertical lip lines, tighten and plump the skin, and help give you a more youthful appearance overall.
Take a look at some facial fillers before and after photos of patients who used HA fillers, and you should notice an attractive, yet natural appearance in their “after” images.
How much are facial fillers?
Filler injections start at $750 for each single syringe. Different types of facial fillers cost different amounts, however.
Additionally, some patients may require more than one syringe depending on their needs. Please book a consultation to find out what types of dermal fillers would best suit your needs and how much you can expect to pay.
What is the best filler for older skin?
Many professionals agree that some of the best fillers for mature skin include JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, and Restylane®.
